HS: Winter SIMA FAB 50 rankings, Feb. 24
After this week, it is possible the remaining winter-season high school programs will be playing for No. 2.
On the boys side, Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) wrapped up its third straight SIMA FAB 50 No. 1 ranking a month ago. Ever since, the program has been busy placing its seniors with college programs -- a number than now stands as seven NCAA Division I and one Division II senior signees.
This week, the Monte Vista (Danville, Calif.) girls will lock up a second straight No. 1 finish IF the Mustangs can win two games -- the CIF North Coast Section Division I semifinals and final. First up is a semifinal match against a strong Berkeley (Berkeley, Calif.) program that has spent time in the SIMA FAB 50 this year. The other side of the NCS Division I draw has SIMA FAB 50 No. 21 [Liberty ca-w] (Brentwood, Calif.) and No. 49 Granada (Livermore, Calif.).
Throughout the rest of the SIMA FAB 50s this week, movement was quite limited.
Teams are only advancing if and when other ranked programs lose, which is not often in Texas league play nor during the opening rounds of the California section playoffs. In fact, the boys and girls rankings each welcomed only three new teams this week, and most of them are making a return visit to the SIMA FAB 50.
