SIMA FAB 50: Calif. results jostle rankings

The top of the rankings haven't changed in a few weeks, but there was quite an adjustment throughout the SIMA FAB 50s this past week thanks to several California teams.

Wins by St. John Bosco (Calif.) and JSerra (Calif.) boys AND Mater Dei (Calif.), Amador Valley (Calif.), St. Francis-Mountain View (Calif.), Carlsbad (Calif.) and [Flintridge Sacred Heart (Calif.) girls over SIMA FAB 50-ranked teams jostled the rankings between No. 10 and 50 this week.

Some teams that won actually got pushed down a couple spots to account for the latest round of results featurin Top 25-ranked squads. St. John Bosco and JSerra won their way into the Top 25 boys rankings this week and thus leapfrogged a number of ranked teams. Amador Valley and St. Francis made major jumps in the girls rankings while Carlsbad and Flintridge Sacred Heart make return visits to the SIMA FAB 50.

This starts a bit of a transitional week around the country. Florida girls wrap up regular season play. Florida boys are close to follow, with some teams ending this week. Meanwhile, Texas teams start district play.

With no major tournaments on tap this week, the rankings should be a calm period with limited movement, which will last for a couple weeks until the playoffs kick in in Florida and Hawaii.

BIG MOVERS: BOYS: St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.). St. John's Bosco's 2-1 win over FAB 50-ranked Mater Dei last week helped vault this squad to the top of the Trinity League standings. The win also helped move St. John Bosco from No. 44 to No. 24 in this week's SIMA FAB 50. ... GIRLS: St. Francis-Mountain View (Mountain View, Calif.). St. Francis jumped from No. 46 to No. 15 this week after knocking off last week's No. 7 team.

NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 25 JSerra (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), No. 29 Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco, Calif.), No. 30 Sam Houston (Arlington, Texas), No. 31 Grand Prairie (Texas), No. 39 Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) and No. 47 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.). ... GIRLS: No. 19 Carlsbad (Calif.), No. 37 Franklin (Elk Grove, Calif.), No. 42 Flintridge Sacred Heart (La Canada Flintridge, Calif.), No. 43 Grapevine (Grapevine, Texas), No. 45 St. Margarets Episcopal (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), No. 46 Oviedo (Fla.), No. 47 Frisco Independence (Frisco, Texas) and No. 49 Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove, Calif.).
