Suarez, King bag HS Player of the Week
Jonathan Suarez, a senior forward from Fontana High School (Fontana, California), and Sarah King, a junior forward from Coppell High School (Coppell, Texas), are the TopDrawerSoccer.com High School Players of the Week.
Suarez has been banging in goals for fun over the course of his senior season for Fontana, which is 13-0-1 through its first 14 games. The tip of the trident is Suarez, who has nine multi-goal outings and 25 total tallies so far this season. That’s an average of 1.7 goals per game. He enjoyed one of the most prolific days of his career last week with a pair of big goals in a 4-1 rout of Jurupa Hills. Just last year, Suarez received a training invite from Mexican club Zacatecas on the back of a solid performance at the 7Up Sueno Alianza national finals in Sunrise, Florida.
King’s been a huge piece of Coppell’s puzzle for the majority of her career, and the National Elite Prep Showcase has been her oyster the last two years. In 2014, King was named the NEPS MVP with six goals. She enjoyed another huge tournament at the event this year with three goals and an assist for Coppell, which went 3-0-1 at the tourney. King scored a decisive penalty kick to beat reigning Florida 3A champs Plantation 1-0, and they also beat Byron Nelson 2-0 and Katy Seven Lakes 3-0 to pair with a 1-1 draw against California outfit Steel Canyon.
Other boys finalists include Spencer Ho (Iolani School, Honolulu, Hawaii) and Shane Nicholson (Choctawhatchee High School, Fort Walton Beach, Florida). Other girls finalists include Natalie McDonough (Bishop Lynch High School, Dallas Texans) and Mary Matamoros (Cypress Bay High School, ).
